BRIT Awards 2013: My Predictions

Tomorrow marks the momentous music occasion of the year, a night to remember packed full of outstanding performances; I am of course talking about the BRIT’s.  On the 20th of February James Corden will be heading to the 02 Arena in London to host this massive showcase event. The nominations are jam-packed, with Emile Sande nominated four times, and bands Alt-J and Mumford and Sons both claiming three. Here are my predictions (or wishful thinking!) for some of the categories.

British Breakthrough
This is a really tough category and I have a lot of appreciation for many of the nominees, but Alt-J have stood out for me throughout the year, and their debut album ‘An Awesome Wave’ was a huge success.

British Female
I think it would be huge honour for Amy Winehouse’s memory if she could take this, but if all else fails then I think Emeli Sandé can wear the crown proudly.

British Male
It has to be Ben Howard, surely?

British Group
Purely because I’m not a fan of any of the other nominees I would like to hope that Alt-J can steal this one, but I admit that it’s highly unlikely. Let loose the screaming hordes of teenage fan-girl Directioners…

British Album
I’d like to think that Emile Sandé can take this one, although there’s some stiff competition coming from Plan B and Mumford and Sons.

British Single
This is a tough one to decide on as there’s a great selection of big songs in this category. I think Adele’s Skyfall will steal the crown, but I feel a shout out is also needed to Rizzle Kicks, Mama Do the Hump, as I can’t hear this without smiling!

Global Success
Adele. Please Adele. I can’t take any more screaming Directioners…

International Female
Personally, I couldn’t care less about Rihanna and Taylor Swift – Alicia Keys and Lana del Ray are a much more worthwhile listen in my library, but yet again I think my vote will be outnumbered!

International Male
Frank Ocean or Jack White please!

International Group
I would really love the Black Keys to take this category, as they’ve taken the music scene by storm with something a bit different. They stand out from the crowd of big bands and loud voices, and just seem happy to be doing their own thing.

So that’s who I would like to win, but we’ll just have to wait and see which way the voting goes tomorrow night!
